Courtesy cars are provided if you’ve had an accident and your car needs repair, but not if you have a breakdown. It’s a free service included on most Marshmallow plans.

What is a courtesy car?

A courtesy car is a temporary vehicle that keeps you on the road while your car needs repairs after an accident. They’re provided by our approved repairers, subject to availability.

They are offered free of charge as part of Marshmallow Essential, Original and Plus plans.

Please note: A courtesy vehicle will not be provided if you have a Marshmallow Lightest plan unless you have this as an add-on.

Will I get a courtesy car if my car is repaired by my own garage?

Courtesy cars are provided by our approved repairers. If you choose to use a different garage, you won’t be eligible for a courtesy car.

Will I get a courtesy car if my car breaks down?

Courtesy cars are available in the event of an accident, but not if your car breaks down.

When will I receive my courtesy car?

You will get a courtesy car once:

  • The car has been taken into one of our approved garages
  • The work has been approved by an engineer
  • All the parts needed to repair your car are available

How long can I keep the courtesy car?‍

You can keep the courtesy car for as long as it takes to get your car repaired and back to you in a roadworthy condition.

Do I need to arrange separate car insurance to cover the car?

No, you won't need any extra car insurance. You'll be fully covered under the same terms as your current Marshmallow policy. There is no additional charge for this.

What type of courtesy car will be provided?

The courtesy car will normally be a small hatchback of less than 1200cc (like a Fiat 500 or similar) The aim is to keep you on the road rather than give you a like-for-like replacement for your car.

If you require an automatic vehicle or have accessibility needs, discuss this with the repairer. They may be able to provide a more suitable vehicle, depending on availability.

When won't I be given a courtesy car?

You won’t be eligible for a courtesy car if:

  • You are on the Marshmallow Essential plan and don’t have the Courtesy Car add-on.
  • Your vehicle had a breakdown or you have not made a claim.
  • Your vehicle has been stolen.
  • Your vehicle is beyond economic repair, meaning the cost to repair the vehicle is more than it is worth. This is also known as a “write off” or “total loss”.
  • You choose a garage that's not on our approved repairer list.
  • Your vehicle needs a windscreen or glass repair (windscreen and glass claims are for Marshmallow Original and Plus customers only).

If you have a Marshmallow Plus plan, your courtesy car offering is upgraded to include theft or total loss claims.

For any more info, please refer to Section 8 of your Policy Wording document, which can be found inside your Marshmallow account or via the App.
