How does Marshmallow Move work?

When you buy a Marshmallow Move policy, we’ll send you a small device called a Tag that collects driving data. The Tag pairs with the Marshmallow app on your phone to track your driving habits passively. This is known as “telematics car insurance” or “black box car insurance”.

You can drive before the Tag arrives, but make sure to activate it within 14 days of purchasing your policy.

Who provides the telematics technology?

We’ve partnered with Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), a global leader in telematics solutions used by major insurers.

What kind of driving data is collected?

We collect data like speed, hard braking, phone use while driving, crash detection, and journey distances. This helps us understand how safely you drive.

Do I need to change how I drive?

No, just drive normally. The device and app passively track your driving habits.

Will my premium go up if I drive badly?

No. In your first year, your price won’t go up due to your driving score. Safe drivers may get better deals or rewards in the future.

How does my driving score affect renewal?

Your score is based on a 91-day average of speeding, hard braking, phone use, and road types. Safer drivers may receive lower renewal prices.

Can I drive before my Tag arrives?

Yes, you can drive before your Tag arrives, but you must activate it within 14 days of policy verification.

What happens if I don't activate the Tag?

If you don’t activate the Tag within 14 days, we may cancel your policy or move you to another plan at a higher price. We’ll notify you in advance.
