How is your driving score calculated?

Your score is calculate based on three things we measure every time you drive:

  • Braking - How often you brake harshly
  • Phone use - How often you (or your passengers) use your phone while driving
  • Speeding - How often you stay within the speed limit

How to improve your driving score

To improve your driving score on Marshmallow Move, small changes can make a big difference. Here's where to start:

Braking

  • Keep 2 seconds behind the vehicle in front (4 seconds in bad conditions).
  • Look further ahead. The sooner you spot a red light, junction, or slowing traffic, the earlier you can ease off the accelerator and brake gently.
  • Drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions.

Phone use

  • If you're using your phone for navigation, secure it in a phone mount.
  • Avoid touching your phone when the car is moving, even with hands-free technology.
  • Don't let passengers use your phone, and if you do, let us know using trip reclassification in the app.

Speeding

  • Stay within the speed limit at all times.
  • Adjust your speed for road conditions and traffic.

What score should I aim for?

Aim for 80 or above — that's a great score, and it could help when your policy renews.

Everyone makes mistakes, and the occasional error behind the wheel won't have a big impact on your score. But if your score stays consistently very low, we may need to review your policy.
