As part of your policy, you may be asked to share your driving data through the Marshmallow app for 30 days. This helps us verify your policy details and keep your cover active.
We collect driving data from your phone to understand your journeys and driving habits. Your data is only used by Marshmallow for this purpose and is never shared with third parties.
How to Get Started
When you need to share your driving data, you will see a notification in the Marshmallow app and a card on your app home dashboard prompting you to start.
Tap the card and follow the setup steps. You will be asked to:
- Share your location — tap "Allow While Using App" when prompted, then update to "Always Allow" so your drives are recorded even when the app is closed.
- Share your motion activity — tap "Allow" when prompted. This helps us understand things like your speed, braking, and acceleration.
- Allow background app refresh — this lets the app collect data automatically without you needing to open it every time you drive.
Once you have completed these steps, you will see a confirmation screen. From that point, just keep your phone with you while driving and the app takes care of everything.
How Long Does It Last?
Data sharing lasts for 30 days. During this time, you need to keep data sharing turned on. After the 30 days, we review your data and will be in touch with the outcome.
What Happens If I Do Not Share My Data?
You need to activate data sharing within 7 days of being notified. If you do not activate it within this window, your policy may be cancelled.
Once activated, if data sharing is turned off for more than 7 consecutive days, or for 7 or more total days within any 30-day period, your policy may also be cancelled.
What Happens After the 30 Days?
Once the data-sharing period is complete, we review your driving data and will be in touch if we need to discuss anything in relation to your policy.
Can I See My Driving Data?
Driving insights and trip-level detail are not currently available during the data-sharing period. You do not need to monitor anything yourself. We handle the review once the 30 days are complete.
Is My Data Safe?
Yes. Your driving data is only used by Marshmallow to verify your policy details. It is never shared with third parties. You can read more about how we handle your data in our Privacy Policy.
