How do Ford insurance groups work?
Every car model in the UK is placed into a group from 1 to 50:
- Group 1 = Cheapest to insure
- Group 50 = Most expensive to insure
Insurance groups are based on things like:
- Cost to repair
- Ease of sourcing parts
- Security features
- Safety ratings
- Engine size and performance
The lower the number, the cheaper the insurance. It's as simple as that.

Ford Fiesta insurance group
Who doesn’t love a Ford Fiesta? They’re often a favourite for first-time drivers and UK newcomers alike because they’re affordable, reliable and relatively cheap to fix.
Be careful when picking your model though. Mostly depending on the size of the engine, some Ford Fiestas fall into a higher car insurance group.
