How to cancel your car insurance policy
To cancel your Marshmallow car insurance policy, follow these steps:
- Open your Marshmallow app.
- Tap your active policy.
- Select Update details.
- Scroll to Cancel your policy and follow the instructions.

Please note: The Cancel your policy option will not appear if you policy has entered into the renewal window.
Things to consider before cancelling
- Changing cars. Selling your car? We can transfer your cover to your new vehicle rather than cancelling. You can do this in the Marshmallow app. Find out how to change your vehicle on your policy.
- Up for renewal? If your policy is coming to an end and you don’t want it to renew automatically, you can set it to expire. Find out how to stop your policy from renewing.
- Cancellation time. Your cover will remain active until 23:59 (11:59pm) on the day you choose to cancel your policy.
- Road tax and insurance. By law, any vehicle that’s taxed and driven on public roads must be insured. If you cancel your policy, make sure you have alternative insurance in place.
How much does it cost to cancel my policy?
Your cancellation fee depends on when you cancel, and which plan you’re on. Within 14 days of starting (cooling off period): £30 admin fee
After 14 days of starting: £60-£125, depending on your plan and purchase date
To find the exact fee that applies to your policy:
- Open the Marshmallow app.
- Go to the Documents section.
- Select your Policy Wording document.
If Marshmallow needs to cancel your policy (e.g. due to unpaid documents or non-payment), a cancellation fee of up to £130 may apply.
When will I get my refund if I cancel?
Yes — if you haven’t made a claim, your refund will be calculated pro-rata, based on the time left on your policy. The cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund.
- Refunds are paid out to the card on your account.
- It can take 5–10 working days for the refund to appear in your account.
